When using VMware vSphere 6.5 with self-signed certificates, I noticed that I could not upload files to a datastore.
This is due to the fact that the self-signed certificate is not trusted in the browser you are using. To resolve the issue follow the below steps (See also https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2147256):
Go to https://yourvcenterserver
Click on “Download trusted CA certificates”
Save the zip file to “Download.zip”
Open the file “Download.zip”
Extract the file xxxx.0.crt (located in certs\win subdirectory)
Rename the file xxxx.0.crt to xxxx.cer.crt
Open a command prompt as administrator and type “certmgr.msc”
Within the certificate manager navigate to and expand “Trusted Root Certificate Authoroties”
Right-click on “Certificates” and select “All Tasks – Import”
Select “Next” and browse to the certificate you just renamed and click “Next”
Leave all defaults and click “Finish” at the end
Close all browser windows
Re-open your browser and access vCenter again
Now you will be able to upload files to datastores
Works. Thanks.
