Install Horizon View Agent on non-vCenter managed Virtual Machines

According to the VMware Horizon View 5.3 documentation, you must install the VMware View Agent on Virtual Machines that are managed by a vCenter Server.

If you are however installing the View Agent on a non-vCenter managed VM (e.g. on a VMware Fusion or VMware Workstation VM) you have to give the VM a machine ID to convince the View Agent installer that it is running in a managed VM. In this case you won’t be prompted for a Connection Server name/address. To do this, just add the line machine.id = “foo” to the VMX file of the Virtual Machine.

Note that this is not officially supported by VMware.
